Mum Julie already has her heart set on Oxford for son Tyler


Their pushy parents have spent months militantly preparing them so they can spell words most adults can't even understand. And as Channel 4' Child Genius returned tonight viewers were shocked at the level of pressure mothers and fathers put on their young children to succeed. Viewers likened their behaviour to 'borderline child abuse' and 'bullying' while others said they would like to see how the parents handle the level of stress they put their children under. This years crop of contestants includes Rahul, 12, whose father Minesh is determined that his son will come out on top. 'My role is to bring out the confidence in Rahul that he is the best in the competition' he explained. He'll say maybe. But the "maybe" has to become, "yes I will win".The series also features Tyler, 10, from London whose mother Julie carefully schedules every minute of his free time.
